Overall, Cave Story 3D is a very fun and engaging game with no reason to be bored, ever. You can also earn health and missiles from enemies. However, getting hit by an enemy downgrades a weapon, as you lose experience depending on how much damage you take.

The player also collects golden triangles that act as experience, upgrading your weapon up to Level 3, the strongest most weapons can get.

However, to obtain certain weapons, the player can also refuse trades (for example, to get the Spur, the player must refuse to trade their Polar Star with Curly for the Machine Gun).

Due to the course of trading weapons within the game, you can only carry five at a time (for example, the Polar Star can be traded for the Machine Gun, or the Polar Star and the Fireball can be traded for the Snake). In the course of the game, the player can get many new weapons, such as the Polar Star, the Missile Launcher, the Fireball, the Bubbler, the Blade, the Snake, the Nemesis, and many others. You can either play Story Mode, which is the story in 3D, or Classic Mode, which is the game presented in its old PC style of graphics.ĭespite the beautiful, yet sometimes confusing, story, the gameplay is very simple, restrained to walking, jumping, and shooting. In the game, you are tasked with many different requests, whether it is destroying red flowers, rescuing a female robot named Curly Brace, or fighting the Doctor’s minions Balrog and Misery, meaning you’re basically always engaged with something. Throughout the game, you slowly discover a plot by the main antagonist The Doctor, who wants to capture a village of peaceful rabbit creatures called Mimigas and turn them into monsters through red flowers that grow on the island to find the Demon Crown, a crown with vast magical powers. In Cave Story, you play as a robot named Quote, waking up on a floating island with no memory of his past.
